Our dedicated team is committed to supporting each and every one of our Cadets throughout their 3-year training program. With over half of our team comprising of ex-seafarers, we offer a unique real-life insight into the maritime career path.
Here’s how we can assist you:
Guidance and Support: We’re here to guide you through your Cadetship, ensuring you make the most of your time both at college and during sea placements.
Regular Interaction: Our team will visit you regularly at college, providing face-to-face support. Additionally, we’re just a phone call or email away whenever you need assistance.
Collective Expertise: As part of the Stream Marine Group, we have access to a wealth of maritime professionals. If there’s a question we can’t answer directly, we’ll tap into this collective knowledge to find the solution.

Group Operations Director
Katy Womersley MNM
Katy, former General Manager of a UK Cadet Management company, joined SMC as Operations Director of Careers in October 2020, doubling the Cadet portfolio, before her promotion to Group Operations Director of the Stream Marine Group in 2022.
A former Deck Officer at Sea, her shore-based career began in the delivery and development of short courses as an STCW & HSE instructor. She then made an extremely successful switch to the Cadet recruitment and management side of the business, helping to grow it from 300 Officer Cadets to a peak of over 1,000. In 2023 Katy was awarded the Merchant Navy Medal for contributions to seafarers’ training and sector diversity.
Training Manager
Kellie McKechnie
Kellie started her career in maritime in 2010 as a Deck Cadet for a deep-sea bulk carrier company. On completion of her deck Cadetship she went on to work as Deck Officer on board Ro-Pax ferries and North Sea Stand-by Vessels. Kellie started her shore-based career with Stream Marine Training in late 2017 in the role of Survival Craft Instructor delivering STCW courses. Kellie then joined a Ship Management company where she over seen the UK Cadet Training for several deep-sea and offshore companies before returning to the Stream Group as Training Manager for Stream Marine Careers in 2022.
Training Officer
Kieran Turner
Kieran started his Maritime career in 2016 completing his engineering cadetship in 2019, Kieran went on to work with a local company who operate small workboats, being responsible for the berthing and letting go of cruise ships in Greenock. During this time, he also returned to college to complete his HND top-up courses. With his experience as an engineering cadet, Kieran can provide great insight into this career path and is a great addition to the SMC team!
